Kia Sportage A/C Accumulator Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How to Replace a Receiver-Drier in an Automobile Air Conditioning System?
A: Have the refrigerant discharged and recovered by an air conditioning technician. On 1997 and earlier models, remove the radiator grille. Remove the refrigerant lines from the A/C accumulator and cap them immediately to prevent the entry of dirt or moisture into the system. Discard the 0-ring seals. Remove the bracket bolt that secures the A/C accumulator and remove the unit from its bracket. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to install new 0-rings onto the line fittings and lightly coat them with refrigerant oil. On later models, the A/C accumulator is mounted integrally with the condenser, at the left end of the condenser. Remove the condenser. Remove the two nuts that secure the A/C accumulator to the condenser and remove the A/C accumulator. Remove and discard the old 0-rings, coat the new 0-rings with a thin coat of refrigerant oil, and install the new 0-rings. If you're installing a new A/C accumulator, be sure to add ND-OIL8 refrigerant oil. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the mounting nuts securely. Have the system evacuated, charged, and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
