Before you work on 1998 and later Spectra models, start by taking out the air intake tube's resonator. The wire clasp that holds the TP sensor and IAC valve electrical connections needs to be gently pushed before pulling them apart. Unhook the fresh air hose from the throttle body, unlock the clamps, then pull off the two coolant hoses attached beneath the throttle body. Bend and pinch the two coolant hoses attached to the bottom part of the throttle body, open the spring clamp style clamps, and take the hoses off, knowing you'll deal with some leaking coolant. Free the accelerator cable from the throttle body. Remove nuts that hold mountings between the intake manifold and the throttle body to be able to pull off the throttle body. Wipe off all old gasket material from both the throttle body and intake manifold. You can decide to remove the Idle Air Control valve from the throttle body. First use a carburetor cleaner to clean the throttle body bore, focusing on the bottom side of the throttle valve. Be careful not to spray the carb cleaner on any sensors as this will damage them. Reattach the throttle body backward from how you took it off. Before attaching, apply new gaskets and tighten the mounting bolts to the listed torque. Once you put back the parts, check the coolant level and fill it if needed. Then straighten out your accelerator cable, and fire up the engine to see if air or coolant leaks show up.
