Q:
How to Replace the Throttle Valve Cable? Posted by Customer
A:
Check the cable and housing for damage. Actuate the accelerator through its full range of travel, ensuring it doesn't bind and returns rapidly and completely. Replace the Throttle Cable if it doesn't operate smoothly. Remove the square-head plug on the front of the transaxle and install an oil pressure gauge capable of reading up to 100 psi in the test port. With the shift lever in the Park (P) position, start the engine and let it warm up to normal operating temperature. Check the idle speed adjustment and ensure that it is adjusted correctly. Loosen the bolts securing the throttle cable to the bracket on the front side of the throttle body assembly, first loosening the bolt on the driver's side then the bolt on the right side. Ensure that the throttle valve lever on the throttle body is in the closed position. Tighten the left cable bolt securely. Pull the throttle cable toward the right side of the vehicle until the line pressure exceeds the specified pressure range. Push the throttle cable toward the left side of the vehicle until the line pressure decreases to the adjustment pressure. If the line pressure will not decrease to the adjustment pressure, tighten the right side bolt with the line pressure at the closest reading to the adjustment pressure. Tighten the right side bolt securely. Stop the engine and ensure that the throttle cable moves smoothly. Restart the engine and accelerate it slightly, then let it run at idle speed. Verify that the line pressure is within the specified pressure range. If the line pressure is not correct, repeat the adjustment procedure. Turn off the engine, remove the pressure gauge and install the square-head plug, wrapping the threads of the plug with Teflon tape to prevent leakage.Remove the battery and battery tray. Loosen and remove the bolts securing the Throttle Cable to the bracket on the front side of the throttle body assembly, first loosening the bolt on the driver's side then the belt on the right side. Remove the Throttle Cable from the throttle lever on the throttle body. Loosen the left front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel and the engine splash shield. Drain the transaxle lubricant into a suitable container. Support the engine from above using an engine hoist or support fixture. Remove the front and rear engine mount through-bolts, then remove the engine crossmember. Remove the transaxle oil pan and gasket. Disconnect the solenoid connectors. Remove the control valve body mounting bolts and lower the valve body from the transaxle. Remove the Throttle Cable from the throttle cam in the transaxle. Remove the mounting bolts and throttle cable from the transaxle. Install a new Throttle Cable to the throttle cam in the transaxle. Connect the Throttle Cable to the throttle lever on the throttle body. Attach the throttle cable to the transaxle using new bolts and tighten the bolts securely. Install the control valve body, tightening the bolts to the torque. There are two bolt lengths; installing the long bolts in the wrong position could cause severe damage. Reconnect the solenoid connectors. Install the transaxle oil pan. Install the engine crossmember and tighten the bolts to the torque.Remove the engine support fixture or hoist. Reinstall the battery and battery tray. Fill the transaxle with the proper type and amount of fluid. Adjust the Throttle Cable in Steps.
