To replace brake pads in all front and rear discs made on or after 1998 in Sephia and Spectra models, you must first remove the brake fluid reservoir cap. Make sure your car is lifted and secured on jackstands, then turn the wheel lug nuts loose before you begin. Take a close look at the brake disc, then remove the entire brake unit when you need to prepare the disc for grinding. The piston for 2004 and earlier brakes needs to be pushed back into the cylinder with a C-clamp before installing new brake pads, being careful not to let brake fluid from the master cylinder overflow. Purge all dirt and grime off the assembly with brake cleaner, pull off the guide pin covers if present, then detach and cleanup the guide pins. Position the caliper on the strut, take out both brake pads, put in the new ones, and oil the guide pins correctly. On models made from 2005 and later, do the same job but use a C-clamp to move the piston back, clean up everything in the assembly, look at the guide pins and rubber seals before putting in fresh pads. To replace back-side brake pads, first clean the brake assembly with brake liquid cleaner. Unscrew the caliper mounting bolts, and hang the caliper off to the side. Change both brake pad sets, making sure the pad retainer clips create a tight connection. Apply grease designed for high temperatures in the right places. Pull the piston back into the caliper with needle-nose pliers, add plates' mounting screws, and tighten them. To change the pads in Sportage models, just repeat what we did earlier when we adjusted the piston and installed new brakes. Complete your wheels installation and tighten the lug nuts. After lowering the car, give the brake pedal some presses, testing the brake fluid and discs to work properly. Drive only when everything is in good condition.
