Loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Apply the parking brake and block the rear wheels to prevent rolling off the jackstands, then remove the front wheels. For Sephia and Spectra models from 2001 and earlier, separate the stabilizer link from the control arm, remove the pinch bolt and nut securing the balljoint to the steering knuckle, and carefully pry the lower control arm away from the steering knuckle. Next, remove the bolts attaching the control arm to the crossmember and take out the arm. For Sportage models, remove the balljoint-to-steering knuckle bolts, then remove the control arm mounting bolts and the control arm itself. Inspect the control arm for distortion and check the bushings for wear, replacing parts as necessary without attempting to straighten a bent control arm. If the front bushing is worn or cracked, take the control arm to an automotive machine shop for replacement. For the rear bushing, remove the nut and washer, slide off the old bushing, and install a new one. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring all fasteners are tightened to the specified torque values. Finally, install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, tighten the lug nuts to the torque, and consider having the front wheel alignment checked and adjusted if needed.
