Q:
What is the purpose of the Evaporative Emissions Control (EVAP) system and how to replace Canister Purge Valve and Vapor Canister? Posted by Customer
A:
The Evaporative Emissions Control (EVAP) system is responsible for absorbing fuel vapors and releasing them into the intake manifold during engine operation. The system consists of various components such as the fuel tank filler neck cap, EVAP canister, vapor pressure sensor, canister closed valve, two-way valve, and purge valve. The vapor pressure sensor monitors the pressure inside the fuel tank, while the canister stores the vapors until they are purged into the intake manifold. The purge valve regulates the flow of vapors, ensuring the air/fuel mixture remains balanced. The canister closed valve controls the fresh air line and is located on the canister. The EVAP system monitor is an OBD-II test that checks for leaks in the system. The PCM initiates the EVAP purge sequence, opening the purge valve and canister closed valve to draw vapors into the intake manifold. The pressure inside the system is monitored, and any leaks or incorrect purge flow are indicated by the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) or Check Engine light. The monitoring sequence is repeated as long as the engine is operating in closed loop. The purge control solenoid valve and EVAP canister can be removed and installed following specific steps.
