Kia 987004D000 Rear Wiper Motor & Linkage Assembly

To replace the windshield wiper motor on 2005 and earlier models, first disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. The wiper motor is located in the right-rear corner of the engine compartment; remove the bolts securing the motor assembly to the firewall and pull the motor out to access the wiper linkage arm. Rotate the wiper arms to expose the linkage arm and remove it by applying pressure with a forked tool to pop the linkage arm ball from the socket, ensuring not to remove the nut from the wiper motor shaft that secures the linkage arm. For 2006 and later models, start by removing the wiper arm mounting nuts after taking off the caps, then mark the position of each wiper arm to its shaft before removing the arms. Next, remove the plastic cowl cover, disconnect the electrical connector from the wiper motor, and remove the mounting bolts to lift the entire wiper motor and link assembly out of the cowl area. Use a screwdriver to pry the linkage rod from the crank arm pivot, remove the crank arm nut while marking its relationship to the motor shaft, and then separate the motor from the link rod assembly. For the rear wiper motor, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, remove the cap covering the wiper arm retaining nut, and mark the position of the wiper arm in relation to the wiper motor shaft. If necessary, use a small two-jaw puller to detach the arm. Remove the retaining nut cover and nut for the wiper motor-to-liftgate, take off the liftgate trim panel, disconnect the electrical connector from the rear wiper motor, and then remove the mounting bolts to lower the motor from the liftgate. Installation for all components is the reverse of removal.
