The TP sensor is located on the throttle body and is a serviceable part on 2001 through 2006 models. On 2006.5 and later models, it is part of the electronic throttle control module. To replace the TP sensor, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the engine cover if necessary, then disconnect the TP sensor electrical connector. Mark the position of the sensor if you plan to reinstall the same one. Remove the TP sensor mounting screws and take out the sensor from the throttle body. Install the new sensor and align the mounting holes, then tighten the screws securely. For adjustment, use a high-impedance digital voltmeter. For four-cylinder engines, backprobe terminals 1 and 3 of the TP sensor electrical connector and note the voltage with the throttle fully closed and slowly open it to check for a smooth increase in voltage. Adjust the sensor if needed. For V6 engines, unplug the electrical connector and insert a feeler gauge between the throttle lever and its stop. Connect an ohmmeter between terminals 1 and 2 of the TP sensor and adjust the sensor until there is no continuity. Reconnect the electrical connector and backprobe terminals 1 and 3 with a voltmeter to check the sensor output voltage. Repeat the adjustment procedure if necessary. If the output voltage still doesn't fall within the specified range, the TP sensor may be faulty.
