First, loosen rear wheel lug nuts, raise the rear of the vehicle on jackstands and remove the rear wheels while ensuring that parking brake is released. Remove the brake drum followed by if necessary, removal of the rear hub and wheel bearing assembly. Clean your brake unit; then compress the shoe retainer spring and follow specific steps that will be used to remove and replace shoes while ensuring correct lubrication and adjustment. If there are any damaged or worn drums, reface them. Reinstall hub & wheel bearing assembly in case it was removed; install brake drum; attach wheels; lower vehicle; adjust brakes. The other category is parking brakes that requires all four to be done at once but only one side at a time . For this part, loosen rear wheel lug nuts, raise the car back on jacks then remove rear wheels being careful with releasing handbrake even . Inspect shoe lining after which you can clean up all these brake parts by removing hub and bearing for instance in some cases .
