On 1994 and 1995 models and on 2004 and later 2.0L DOHC Spectra models, the horizontal and vertical adjustment screws are located on top of the headlight housing, with the outer screw for vertical adjustments and the inner screw for horizontal adjustments. For 1995-1/2 through 2004 models, except 2.0L DOHC models, there is only one screw for vertical adjustments, with no horizontal adjustment screw available. Several methods exist for adjusting the headlights, with the simplest involving masking tape, a blank wall, and a level floor. Position masking tape vertically on the wall in relation to the vehicle center line and the center lines of both headlights, and add a horizontal tape line in reference to the center line of all the headlights, ideally with the vehicle parked just a few inches away. Adjustments should be made with the vehicle parked 25 feet from the wall, sitting level, with the gas tank half-full and no heavy load. With the low beams on, position the high intensity zone two inches below the horizontal line, and for 1994 and 1995 models, adjust the horizontal position so the high intensity zone is two inches to the side of the vertical line, away from oncoming traffic. With the high beams on, the high intensity zone should be vertically centered just below the horizontal line. It may not be possible to achieve perfect positioning for both high and low beams, so if a compromise is necessary, prioritize the low beams for safety. If difficulties arise during adjustment, seek assistance from a dealer service department promptly.
