  Q: How to check Starter Motor and starting circuit?

  A: If a starting circuit malfunction occurs, don't blame the starter. Check the Battery Cable clamps, battery cables, and battery condition. Also, inspect the starter solenoid wiring, starter mounting bolts, fusible link, Park/Neutral switch, and starter relay. Test for battery voltage to the solenoid. If the starter doesn't operate, remove and bench-test it. Check the starter cranking voltage and current draw. If the starter receives voltage but doesn't activate, the solenoid may be defective. If the engine may be seized, rotate the crankshaft pulley.

  Q: How to remove and install a starter motor?

  A: Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the lower engine splash shield, if so equipped. Detach the electrical connectors from the starter/solenoid assembly. Remove the starter heat shield, if so equipped. On 2001 through 2006 models, disconnect the speedometer cable and the transaxle shifter cable. Remove the starter motor mounting fasteners and remove the starter. Installation is the reverse of removal.
