Every now and then, it's good to drain and replace the automatic transmission or transaxle fluid as well as differential fluid. There is an additional suggestion to periodically replace the transaxle fluid filter so that all of the accumulated dirt and metal particles can be removed from it. Make sure you have the right kind of fluid specified for your vehicle before starting this procedure along with necessary tools like jackstands; proper size wrench; a drain pan, newspapers, clean rags etc. The best way to drain the hot oil out of the transaxle is when it is still warm after driving as hot oil removes sediment better than cool oil does. After placing jackstands under a raised vehicle and aligning adequate equipment beneath, place a drain pan below the drain plug and remove plug. For 2009 & earlier models, start by removing transmission oil pan bolts, pans (gaskets) carefully cleaned if necessary. Drain any remaining fluid in addition to cleaning up the pan itself before unclipping its filter from valve body for replacement if need arises. Attach a new one on top of a gasket while rotating properly tightened screws into these holes. On vehicles built since 2011 with cartridge-type transmission filters, lubricate new O-ring with clean transmision fluid; screw it in manually until tight enough for use but not over-tightened. Follow this procedure regardless of which model you have: add fresh oil via dipstick hole being careful to check level using dipstick from time to time because more will be needed later always adding through same point; run engine allowing all gears including park function must operate at near idle speed stop engine after all positions checked while applying parking brake again see whether everything looks ok just standing there observe conditions outside then start moving forward consider free items towards rear end without engaging anything- nothing should happen otherwise we recommend turning off immediately when driving on highway during acceleration shift up two gears back down another three times without hesitation before throwing it into neutral and allowing car coasting until stops completely or slows below certain speed limit too.
