To begin, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and completely raise the parking brake lever. For vehicles with a manual transaxle, unscrew and remove the shift lever knob, noting that many later models may have an additional securing screw on the front side. Next, remove the securing screws and detach the console by first taking out the ashtray and the fastener behind it, then carefully detaching the clips and removing the trim ring from around the shifter, followed by detaching any electrical connectors and removing the console mounting fasteners at the front and inside the console compartment. Maneuver the floor console up and over the shift lever and parking brake handle to remove it from the vehicle. The installation process is the reverse of removal. Proceed to remove the storage box fasteners and lift out the storage box, then take out the armrest hinge screws to remove the armrest assembly. Carefully pry off the rear end cover, and for models without heated seats, pry out the blank trim panel; for those with heated seats, pry out the seat heater switch panel, disconnect the electrical connectors, and remove the seat heater switches. Remove the four push fasteners from the front end of the console, followed by the screws from each side. Inside the receptacle for the storage box, remove the two nuts from the back end of the console. For models with an automatic transaxle, remove the shift lever handle by prying open the trim cover, removing the handle retaining screw, and pulling the handle straight up. Finally, lift up the console, ensuring it is free of all fasteners, connectors, and harnesses, and then remove it. The installation process is again the reverse of removal.
