Kia Spectra Idle Control Valve

The Kia Spectra Idle Control Valve ensures that the engine runs smoothly in an idle state by allowing the proper amount of air to pass by the closed throttle plate to prevent shake or stall when the pedal is not applied. Mounted on the throttle body, this Idle Control Valve is instructed by the powertrain computer, which turns a plunger via a small motor to widen or narrow an airflow bypass to balance fuel and air for a comfortable idle in any driving condition. Early Kia Spectra models running throttle body injection applied a stepper-motor style Idle Control Valve paired with a cable-driven butterfly, but later generations of Kia Spectra with multi-port systems and drive-by-wire use a much faster linear servo design that works in conjunction with electronic throttle sensors to achieve faster correction. The major differences lie in response speed and integration with stability features; both Idle Control Valves are designed to be durable, yet both varieties suffer if dust is allowed to bind the mechanism, bringing about higher idle or stalls. Doing regular cleaning will often revive the modern Idle Control Valve, keeping the Spectra composed, though a worn motor means swapping it out to keep any Kia steady at stoplights. The Idle Control Valve is essential for maintaining optimal engine performance.

Kia Spectra Idle Control Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the Idle Control Valve and idle speed control components on Kia Spectra?
    A:
In the 1994 and 1995 86 SOHC models manufactured between 1994 and 1997, the Idle Speed Control (ISC) solenoid valve is found on the underside of the throttle body. To remove it, one should start by removing the throttle body, then taking off the ISC solenoid valve mounting screws as well as solenoid valve itself. The old ISC solenoid valve gasket can be thrown away and any residue on gasket mating surface of throttle body and ISC solenoid valve can be cleaned up. Then install it with a new gasket tighten securely for an improved installation. The air valve at front of intake manifold plenum can be removed by loosening spring type hose clamps and disconnecting hoses. Remove air valve mounting bolts along with old air valve gasket clean mating surface of intake manifold plenum and air valve from any residue . Then install it with a new gasket tighten securely for an improved installation. On all 1996 through 1997 models and all 1995 DOHC plus BP DOHC models, Idle Air Control (IAC) valves are located beneath the throttle bodies in these engines just like earlier model's ISC valves has been described before in this chapter. The removal process is similar to that for the earlier models of ICS solenoids or ISC valves discussed above in this chapter. For other than 2.0L DOHC engine on a car made between 1998 -2004,IAC valve is located on backside of the throttle body. After disconnecting electrical connector you will have to unscrew IAC mounting screws as well as remove old gasket behind it.Any residue should be cleaned off from gasket mating surface between these two parts namely throttles body and IAC valves. The installation procedure involves using a new gasket secured tightly by tightening IAC Valve mounting screws after reversing removal process. The Idle Speed Control Actuator (ISCA) for 2004 and later models with the 2.0L DOHC engine is located at the front of the intake plenum. The process of removal and installation is similar to previous models, where you have to remove engine cover first then disconnect electrical connector before removing ISCA from intake manifold.
