Raise the hood and place a blanket over the left (driver's) fender to protect it, then remove the air filter housing, battery and battery tray. Working in the engine compartment, remove the shift cable-to-manual shift lever mounting nut, disconnect the shift cable from the bracket, remove the front console inside the vehicle, remove the shift cable-to-shift lever nut and disconnect the cable, remove the grommet fasteners from the panel opening between the engine compartment and the passenger compartment, then pull out and remove the cable from the passenger compartment. Working under the steering column, install the shift cable through the panel opening into the engine compartment, place the shift cable onto the shift lever stud and install the mounting nut, push the shift cable into the shift lever housing until it snaps into place, place the shift cable to the shift lever and install the mounting bolt, place the cable housing into the mounting bracket and install the retaining clip, and the remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
