At the left (driver's) side of the engine compartment is located inside a housing that has an air filter. It is necessary to disconnect the electrical connector of Mass Air flow (MAF) sensor from the sensor on the air filter housing. For 2005 models and earlier, unscrew cover mounting screws are recommended as one way of removing them, while for 2006 and later models clamps holding together two halves of air filter housing have to be released. Separate the cover halves and remove the air filter element. Examine its outer surface for any signs of dirtiness. Replace if dirty or blow clean with compressed air if only moderately dusty by blowing it from back to front using compressed air since it is made from pleated paper type filters which can't be washed or oiled. If cleaning this way with compressed fails to satisfy you, throw it away and get a new one in its place. So that nothing would fall into it when overhaul is being carried out on this module, caution should be taken not to drop anything into this area at all times when this lid has been removed. Wipe off its internal section first with your handkerchief before reassembling other parts especially after putting a new one inside here properly so as not to allow any contaminant through there anyway that does not belong there which will ultimately ruin your engine other than protecting it; finally screw its lid back on again or clamp down hard enough around where clips are fitted exactly where they were before then lastly reconnect your electricity lead now back onto these cables that used to go through there previously.
