    Q:
How to install a water pump in a Kia Optima? Posted by Customer
    A:
Non-toxic coolant is available at local auto parts stores. Although the coolant is non-toxic when fresh, proper disposal of used coolant is still required. 2006 and 2006.5 models will both have a "6" in the tenth position of the VIN. To distinguish a 2006 model from a 2006.5 model, look at the 8th position of the VIN (the engine code): A 2006 model will have a "6" (four-cylinder) or "8" (V6), while a 2006.5 will have a "3"(four-cylinder) or "4" (V6). Disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the cooling system. For 2006 and earlier models, remove the timing belt. Now is a good time to replace the timing belt if it's fairly old. If you are working on a four-cylinder model, remove the water pump pulley using a strap wrench or pin spanner wrench to hold the pulley while you loosen the bolts. Remove the water pump fasteners. On four-cylinder engines, remove the alternator brace. Pry the water pump off. If necessary, tap the pump loose with a soft-face hammer. For 2006.5 and later four-cylinder models, loosen the water pump pulley bolts. Remove the drivebelt. Remove the exhaust manifold. Remove the water pump pulley. Remove the water inlet pipe nut. Remove the water pump fasteners and pry the water pump off. If necessary, tap the pump loose with a soft-face hammer. To install, clean the water pump and block of any old gasket material or sealant, then clean with brake system cleaner. Install a new gasket and install the water pump. Install the water pump bolts and nuts and tighten them to the torque. Install the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal. Refill the cooling system, then run the engine and check for leaks and proper operation.

    Q:
Are there any other components to remove related to the water pump for the 2013 Kia Sorento? Posted by Customer
    A:
Yes, remove the water pump pulley mounting bolts and then remove the pulley. Subsequently, remove the water pump mounting bolts, and then take out the pump and gaskets. If working from underneath, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then proceed with the removal of the pulley and inlet tube.

    Q:
What are the signs of water pump shaft bearing failure for the 2009 Kia Optima? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the water pump shaft bearings fail, there may be a howling sound at the front of the engine while it is running. Bearing wear can be felt if the water pump pulley can be rocked up and down.
