To replace the fuel pressure regulator on 1994 through 1997 models, relieve the system fuel pressure, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, disconnect the vacuum hose and the fuel return hose from the fuel pressure regulator, put a small metal pan or shop towel under the fuel return hose, loosen the spring-type hose clamp, slide it down the fuel return hose and disconnect the fuel return hose from the pressure regulator, remove the pressure regulator mounting bolts, remove and discard the old fuel pressure regulator O-ring, install a new O-ring on the regulator, coat the new O-ring with a little clean engine oil to protect it from damage when installing the pressure regulator, start the engine and check for fuel leakage at the regulator. On 1998 and later models, the fuel pressure regulator is an integral component of the fuel pump/fuel gauge sending unit, so to replace the fuel pressure regulator, refer to the instructions in the manual.
