How to remove and install a fuel tank on Kia Optima?

Relieve the fuel system pressure and remove the fuel filler cap to relieve fuel tank pressure. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Disconnect the wiring and hoses from the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit assembly. Remove the drain plug and drain the fuel into an approved container. On later models that don't have a drain fitting, siphon the fuel into an approved container using a hand pump siphon. These are available at most auto parts stores. Warning: Never start the siphoning action by mouth! Raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Support the fuel tank. Disconnect the fuel tank filler neck hose and the EVAP system breather and air filter hoses. Remove the nuts from the tank retaining straps and lower the straps. Lower the tank just enough to inspect the top of the tank, then disconnect any electrical harnesses or fuel or EVAP hoses that are connected to the tank. Carefully lower the tank to the ground. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the fuel tank strap bolts securely.
