Kia Sedona Hood Latch

The purpose of the Kia Sedona Hood Latch is to lock the hood of the minivan tight so wind, bumps, or thieves cannot take your so-called truck. The Hood Latch operates in conjunction with an interior pull handle, a flexible release cable, and a spring-loaded catch which is concealed just ahead of the radiator, which holds the hood in place until the driver pulls on the lever inside the cabin. By holding on, this device prevents the panel from flipping back into the windshield when a sudden stop or collision occurs, protecting passengers and vital engine components. It also discourages parts thieves as the lock has to be released from the inside, and many units accept a single key that matches the doors of the Kia vehicle for extra convenience. Early Sedona editions were equipped with a simple steel mechanism, but later Sedona models tend to upgrade to a stainless steel shutter style Hood Latch that blocks dirt and moisture and naturally resists corrosion. Regular inspection of the Hood Latch is important to Kia owners to maintain warranties, and selecting authentic Kia hardware is important to ensure that the system fits and functions as it was designed and intended, ensuring trustworthy Hood Latch operation to ensure every driver can trust their Sedona to remain secure.

Kia Sedona Hood Latch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove the latch and hood release cable from the Kia Sedona?
    A:
To remove the latch, first take out the radiator support trim panel fasteners and the panel if present. For models from 2006 and later, remove the plastic fasteners and cover of the hood latch trim. Next, unscrew the bolts securing the hood latch to the radiator support and detach the latch assembly. After that, detach the hood release cable and remove the latch from the radiator support, with installation being the reverse of removal. For the cable, release the cable end and slide the cable case end sideways in the keyhole slot of the hood latch while pinching the barb on the cable case closed, then remove the cable from the latch. For models from 2005 and earlier, in the passenger compartment, remove the screws to detach the hood release cable and handle assembly from the instrument panel. For models from 2006 and later, in the passenger compartment, remove the center screw on the release handle, slide the handle off, remove the kick panel, and detach the hood release cable and handle assembly, also detaching the cable end from the hood release handle. Under the dash, remove the rubber cable insulator from the hole in the dash panel. Connect a string or wire to the engine compartment end of the cable, detach the cable, and pull it through the firewall into the passenger compartment. Then, connect the string or wire to the new cable and pull it through the firewall into the engine compartment, with the remainder of installation being the reverse of removal.
