For the cable, release the cable end and slide the cable case end sideways in the keyhole slot of the hood latch while pinching the barb on the cable case closed, then remove the cable from the latch. For models from 2005 and earlier, in the passenger compartment, remove the screws to detach the hood release cable and handle assembly from the instrument panel. For models from 2006 and later, in the passenger compartment, remove the center screw on the release handle, slide the handle off, remove the kick panel, and detach the hood release cable and handle assembly, also detaching the cable end from the hood release handle. Under the dash, remove the rubber cable insulator from the hole in the dash panel. Connect a string or wire to the engine compartment end of the cable, detach the cable, and pull it through the firewall into the passenger compartment. Then, connect the string or wire to the new cable and pull it through the firewall into the engine compartment, with the remainder of installation being the reverse of removal.
