Kia Spectra Neutral Safety Switch

The Kia Spectra Neutral Safety Switch prevents the car from cranking unless the gear selector is in park or neutral, which can cause unexpected movement to the driver and the surroundings. By acting as a simple but decisive electrical gate, this Neutral Safety Switch cuts the starter circuit until the transmission console has indicated a safe position. Early Kia Spectra editions and later models have the same concept, either a plunger style sensor located on the transmission case or a compact internal switch near the shifter, but the logic of both designs is the same. This Neutral Safety Switch concept has remained largely unchanged through the full Kia Spectra production run, and every late Kia Spectra with an automatic transmission still relies on it daily. For owners, the Neutral Safety Switch is also an early warning sign of problems with the shifter, and a properly functioning Neutral Safety Switch equals peace of mind.

If you're in search of top-notch, reasonably priced OEM Kia Spectra Neutral Safety Switch, then you've found the perfect spot. Our website boasts an extensive inventory of Kia Spectra Neutral Safety Switch, all priced at the market's premier price. Rest assured, every genuine part we offer comes with a warranty straight from the manufacturer.

Kia Spectra Neutral Safety Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on Kia Spectra?
    A:
First, put the shift lever into neutral to replace the Transmission Range (TR) switch on different models. After that take off the air intake duct and air filter housing and battery and battery tray for Sportage models also. Disconnect the electrical connector from the TR switch and remove the big nut attaching selector lever to manual shaft, thereby disconnecting selector lever from manual shaft. Then extract TR switch mounting bolts and switch. While removing TR switch ensure not to rotate manual shaft on transaxle. Make sure that the TR switch is still in neutral; if it has moved too far one way or another, click it through each gear position until it indicates neutral again. Before adjusting tighten down the mounting bolts just enough to keep it in place reinstalling it loosely first. For 1994 through 2003 models connect an ohmmeter to specified terminals of TR switch then turn this last until there is continuity between indicated terminals. Be careful not to move TR switch while tightening these particular bolts which are of correct torque value. For 2004 and later ones, put shift lever in NEUTRAL position, loosen nut securing shift control cable to manual control lever, and put manual control lever in NEUTRAL position as well. Turn TR switch body such that end hole of manual control lever aligns with flange hole of TR switch by rotating this one.. When tightening these particular bolts make sure they are tight enough yet aligned properly at all times during such process.. Finally pull slack out of shift control cable and tighten nut holding cable on a place at manual control lever side. Ensure however that inside vehicle's gear selection remains in PARK position only at any given time now since we were able to see where its shifter should be located at after our inspection was over. The rest of installation is reverse order of removal.Turn ignition ON; cycle all gears: confirm proper synchronization between transaxle range sensor (TR) & instrument cluster indicator.Move the shift lever to reverse: engine should only start in park or neutral and reverse lights should come on; if necessary, adjust TR switch.
