When replacing entire components, additional refrigerant oil must be added equal to the amount that is removed with the component being replaced. Read the label on the oil container to verify that it is compatible with the R-134a system before adding any of it to the system. Have the system discharged and the refrigerant recovered by an air conditioning technician. For 2005 and earlier models, the A/C Accumulator is located in front of the radiator on the right side. Remove both line fittings from the A/C Accumulator. Plug all openings immediately to prevent contamination. Remove the mounting fastener retaining the A/C Accumulator bracket to the shock tower. Note the position of the ground strap (if equipped). Remove the A/C Accumulator. Installation is the reverse of removal. Install new O-rings onto the line fittings and lightly coat them with the correct refrigerant oil. Only use O-rings that are designed specifically for A/C system applications. If you are replacing the A/C Accumulator with a new unit, add 0.8-ounce (25 ml) of refrigerant oil to the replacement. Have the system evacuated, recharged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it. For 2006 and later models, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Detach the condenser from the radiator and reposition it so the A/C Accumulator can clear the crossmember. If necessary, remove the condenser entirely. Using an Allen wrench, detach the end plug and remove the desiccant from the condenser with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Use new O-rings and a new bottom cap when installing the new desiccant, and tighten the end plug securely. Lubricate the O-rings with R-134a compatible refrigerant oil. Installation is the reverse of removal. Have the system evacuated, recharged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
