The rear hub and bearing are combined into a single assembly, which is sealed for life and requires no lubrication or attention. If the bearing is worn or damaged, the entire hub and bearing assembly must be replaced. Begin by loosening the rear wheel lug nuts, raising the rear of the vehicle, and securely supporting it on jackstands while blocking the front wheels to prevent rolling. Remove the wheels, then take off the brake drum or disc. Next, remove the dust cover, unstake, and take out the hub retaining nut using a hammer and chisel for the dust cover and a punch for the hub locknut. Remove the hub and bearing assembly from the spindle. For installation, reverse the removal steps, ensuring to install a new hub retaining nut and tighten it to the specified torque, staking it in place with a punch. Apply a little clean engine oil to the seating surface of the hub retaining nut before installation. Lightly tap around the edge of the dust cover until it is seated, tighten the caliper bolts to the specified torque on models with rear disc brakes, and finally, install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque.
