Starting the process of removal, first, reduce the fuel system pressure, then unbolt the negative terminal of the battery. Subsequently, take off the engine cover together with its associated air intake duct assembly. Remove the PCV hose, ground strap, electrical connectors, and vacuum lines from the upper intake and place the connectors to the side with tape for identification to be reassembled later as Lift the wiring harnesses up and out of the way. It must also have all interfering hoses and harnesses properly labeled, and disconnected. Remove the hoses coming from the throttle body and wiring and detaching them, using pieces of hose clamp to minimize coolant leakage. Remove the upper intake manifold brace(s) bolts and the two bolts from EGR valve and pull it off. Know that there may be other brackets that may have to be detached; sort them together with their screws or bolts. The bolts fixing the upper intake manifold to the lower intake manifold should be loosened and the two components, separated. Remove the coolant from the radiator and pull the connectors off the fuel injectors, remove the hose from the fuel rail. The final part of the services during an engine rebuild or overhaul is to remove or leave the intake manifold together with the injectors and fuel rails. Unfasten any other connections to this lower component then remove the bolts in the sequence that was followed while tightening it then take off the lower intake manifold from the engine but do not pull it apart from the gasket. Look also at the surface of the manifold for sign of excessive deformation and for signs that replacement is needed. During installation, the gasket and sealant for the lower intake manifold and cylinder heads should be scraped off using a scraper after which the surface should be cleaned with brake system cleaner. New gaskets need to be fitted and the lower intake manifold needs to be placed on the engine, making sure that the gaskets are not out of place before tightening the bolts in a pattern either in 3/4 turns or alternately to the specified torque in the series. Put a new gasket on the lower intake manifold and put the upper one on, screw in the bolts, following the prescribed intensity and sequence. Lastly, replace the cooling system with a new one and if the lower intake manifold was removed coordinate to change the engine oil and engine oil filter. Proceed to the main step and start the engine to verify that there are no fuel or vacuum leaks and that the coolant level is at the right place.
