Every model comes with an additional Safety Restraint System (SRS) or airbag system for the driver and the front seat passenger in case of a head or frontal on collision. This system contains impact sensors, the driver's air bag module that is located in the center of the steering wheel, the passenger's air bag module that is positioned in the glove box area of the instrument panel and the sensing diagnostic module which is installed in the center of the floor pan. Other components include side-impact air bags, small units mounted on the side of the backrests that are intended to be operated in the case of a strong side-on collision, curtain air bags located behind the hard trim above the door opening that are activated when the vehicle is hit from the side. Sensing and diagnostic module sends power to the air bag system during collision and checks the system every time the car is started which the air bag light should glow if everything is in order. It should be followed especially during the car use or work near the steering wheel or SRS components: The prevention of the SRS system from operating means disconnecting the negative terminal of the car battery and wait for the use of the backup power supply. Specifically when dealing with an airbag module it is recommended to make sure the airbag opening is facing a direction other than towards the body and to avoid placing an airbag module with the opening down. Also, it is forbidden to measure the resistance of any SRS component, and use welding equipment on the cars equipped with airbags until the latter is disconnected from the electrical connectors. Real modules should not, under any circumstances, be buried or disposed of in any other form but should be returned to a dealer service department or any other shop with certified technicians who will deploy them appropriately. For the replacement of the driver's side airbag module and the clockspring, it is advised that other airbag modules be done by a professional.
