The air filter element is installed within the air filter housing on the left side of the vehicle engine bay. To replace an air filter, unlatch the two parts of the air filter housing and come out the wires connected to the mass airflow sensor if you will need extra space to lift the top. Finally, remove the clamps and pull up the cover; if necessary replace the air filter element with a new one. Look at the outside of the filter; if the outside appears dirty, the filters should be replaced, but if the outside is only slightly dusty, compressed air from the back to the front surface should be used to clean the filters in the direction shown; proper eye protection should also be used during the cleaning process. You cannot wash or oil this since it is a pleated paper type filter, and should the filter be incapable of being cleaned properly, it should also be disposed of and replaced. One must ensure they do not drive the vehicle without the air filter as this would contribute to the wearing out of the engines and even risky fires. Furthermore, if necessary clean the air filter housing with leaves and debris before reinstalling all the parts in the reverse manner that they were removed.
