For the models produced between the years 2001 and 2006, start by removing the
Timing Belt, and then the
Oil Pan to access the oil pickup, and its gasket. Subsequently, remove the access plug at left front side of the engine block and insert flat screwdriver to lock the balance to the shaft. Take off the balance shaft front sprocket bolt, erase the front case and oil pump housing. Remove the oil pump cover and pull out the oil pump gears; it is advisable to remove all sealant and the old gasket material on the pump body and block surfaces, then clean the surfaces with brake system cleaner. Check the wear and looseness of the oil pump; even if it does not show any signs of wear one should replace it since it is a critical spart; preferred clearances are measured with a feeler gauge. To install, set the cheek of the gears of the oil pump opposite each other and impregnate the gaps with petroleum jelly to lubricate the pump before use. If necessary, service all oil seals and gaskets, the O-ring located at the front case must be changed. Re-torque the bolts and the lower drive sprocket retaining bolt to the recommended torque and re-enter the timing belts. Last of all, fill with oil up to the required level, switch on the engine ignition, and inspect for both, pressure and leakage. Regarding the models starting from the second half of the 2006 year, the balance shaft module contains the oil pump; this component must be removed together with the
Timing Chain, and it is done because the oil pump is embedded in this part, so it is impossible to service it individually; as a result, the whole module must be changed.
