If a Sway Bar Kit becomes damaged, it is most likely due to a severe accident affecting other major components, necessitating the services of an auto body shop. Begin by loosening the front wheel lug nuts, then raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands before removing the front wheels. Disconnect the Sway Bar Link from the bar or the lower
Control Arms, ensuring to note that the lower nut may not be visible. For models from 2006.5 and later, place a floor jack under the rear of the subframe, remove the two rear subframe mounting bolts, and lower the subframe slightly for clearance. Detach both Sway Bar Bushing retainers from the subframe and, while the Sway Bar Kit is detached, slide off the retainer bushings to inspect them for cracks, wear, or deterioration, replacing them if necessary. Also, check the Sway Bar Link for loose ballstuds. Clean the bushing area of the Sway Bar Kit with a stiff wire brush to remove any rust or dirt, then lubricate the inside and outside of the new bushings with vegetable oil to simplify reassembly, avoiding petroleum or mineral-based lubricants or brake fluid to prevent deterioration. Finally, install the retainers and bolts, tightening them to the specified torque, followed by the installation of the links and tightening of the link nuts to the appropriate torque.
