Disconnect the negative battery cable. For 2005 and earlier models, the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor is located on the front of the engine, behind the timing belt cover, next to the crankshaft sprocket. Remove the timing belt covers, disconnect the sensor wiring harness, remove the sensor's mounting bolts, and lift off the sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the bolts are tightened securely. For 2006 and later models, the CKP sensor is located on the top front side of the transaxle bellhousing, near the left end of the front-bank cylinder head. Remove the battery, disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor, remove the CKP sensor mounting bolt, and take out the CKP sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal, inspecting the O-ring for damage and replacing it if necessary, then tightening the CKP sensor bolt to the specified torque.
