Q:
How Do I Remove the Fuel Pump and Fuel Level Sensor on a Kia Sportage? Posted by Customer
A:
Relieve the fuel system pressure and remove the fuel fillerneck cap, then disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. On 1994 through 1997 models, disconnect the electrical connector for the harness that runs through the fuel pump access cover, then remove the access cover screws, disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector and the ground wire attached to the top of the fuel pump, disconnect the fuel supply and return hoses from the pump, remove the fuel pump retaining screws and carefully lift the fuel pump assembly out of the fuel tank. On 1998 and later models (except Sportage), disconnect the two electrical connectors for the harness that runs through the fuel pump access cover, then remove the fuel pump access cover screws, disconnect the electrical connector for the EVAP canister close valve, disconnect the quick-connect fittings for the fuel supply line and the fuel bypass line, remove the fuel pump/fuel gauge sending unit assembly mounting screws and remove the fuel pump/fuel gauge sending unit assembly from the tank. On Sportage models, remove the access cover screws and remove the cover, disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump, disconnect the fuel supply line and suction line quick-connect fittings from the pump, remove the bolts from the fuel pump mounting flange and remove the pump assembly from the fuel tank. Installation is the reverse of removal, then connect the cable to the negative battery terminal, start the engine and look for leaks.
