Kia Sedona Fuel Pump

The Kia Sedona Fuel Pump works by moving the gasoline from the tank to either a carburetor or fuel injection assembly, enabling the minivan to start and run smoothly. Early Sedona models with carbureted engines from Kia had a camshaft-driven mechanical Fuel Pump mounted on the engine, which sent about 6 to 15 psi perfectly suited to a float bowl. As technology improved, later Sedona vans from Kia applied an electric Fuel Pump submerged inside the tank next to the sending unit, the placement of which cools the motor, reduces the risk of fire, and supplies 40 to 60 psi for injectors while providing the gauge with level information. This pump only runs when proper relay voltage is present, so the no-start checks start by listening for the hum from this pump, then they check for volts, and then measure pressure and flow. Capacity is expressed in GPH or LPH. 0.5 times horsepower divided by 6.2 can be applied by drivers to gauge needs. Though both versions meet the same objectives, the mechanical Fuel Pump supports less demand while the high-pressure electric Fuel Pump supports the modern Kia Sedona performance and efficiency.

Kia Sedona Fuel Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you relieve the fuel system pressure and remove the fuel pump and Fuel Level Sensor from the Kia Sedona?
    A:
Relieve the fuel system pressure and remove the fuel filler cap. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the left-side second row rear seat, then pull the carpet back. On 2005 and earlier models, it isn't necessary to remove the seat. Remove the fuel pump/Fuel Level Sensor floor service hole cover by taking out the screws and lifting up the fuel pump access cover. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connectors and the fuel lines from the top of the fuel pump unit. Remove the sound insulator, if equipped, and mark the fuel pump orientation for reference when installing. On 2005 and earlier models, remove the fuel pump mounting screws. For 2006 and later models, use special service tool 09310-2B200 (or equivalent) to rotate the lock ring counterclockwise and remove it; alternatively, a punch can be used to drive the lock ring in a counterclockwise direction. Carefully lift the fuel pump/Fuel Level Sensor assembly from the Fuel Tank. Installation is the reverse of removal.
