Position the number one piston at TDC on the compression stroke. Remove the
Timing Chain. Take off the
Oil Pan and its gasket. Compress the balance shaft chain tensioner and insert a paper clip or 3 mm Allen wrench into the hole of the tensioner. Remove the balance shaft chain tensioner, tensioner arm, and guide mounting bolts, then take out the components in the same order. Remove the balance shaft and oil pump module mounting bolts and lower the assembly from the ladder assembly. The balance shaft and oil pump module cannot be repaired; if there is a problem, the assembly must be replaced as a unit. Set the crankshaft so that the keyway aligns with the line made where the engine block and bearing cap meet. Align the balance shaft sprocket and chain with the cast timing mark on the balance shaft and oil pump module, ensuring the balance shaft chain sprocket aligns with the colored or plated link and the timing mark. Install the balance shaft and oil pump module with the chain and sprocket simultaneously, verify that all timing marks are aligned, then install and tighten the bolts in sequence to the specified torque. Install the balance shaft and oil pump module timing chain guide, tensioner arm, and hydraulic tensioner, tightening the bolts to the specified torque. Remove the pin or Allen wrench from the tensioner, then recheck the timing marks. Reinstall the timing chain. Reinstall the oil pan. Add oil to the proper level, start the engine, and check for oil pressure and leaks.
